A review is only useful if you know how it was made. Here’s the process behind every BeginnerStack review.
1. We use the tool ourselves
We sign up, install, and use every tool we review. No review is written from a product’s feature list or marketing page. Where a tool has a free plan, we test that first, because it’s where most beginners start. When we test a paid plan, we say which one.
2. We build a real beginner project
Every review includes a hands-on test: building a small project a beginner might realistically make, such as a to-do app, a personal website, or a simple script. We record how long it took, what went wrong, and how easy it was to fix. The screenshots in our reviews come from these test sessions.
3. We score what matters to beginners
We rate each tool on five things:
- Ease of getting started: how quickly a new user can do something useful.
- Learning value: whether the tool helps you understand your code, or just does the work for you.
- Price: what you actually pay, including renewal prices and limits on free plans.
- Reliability: errors, outages, and surprises we hit during testing.
- Support and documentation: how easy it is to get unstuck.
4. We state the date and keep reviews current
Tools change quickly, especially AI tools. Every review shows the date it was last tested, and we retest and update our most-read reviews regularly. If a tool changes its pricing or features in a way that affects our recommendation, we update the review.
5. Money doesn’t decide the verdict
Some tools pay us a commission when readers sign up through our links. Commission rates play no part in our rankings, and we review tools that have no affiliate program at all when they’re the right choice for beginners. We don’t accept payment for reviews or for better placement.
